Climate Change and Its Prevention: A Voice from the Mountains of Gilgit-Baltistan

🏔️ Introduction Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. It is changing weather patterns, melting glaciers, increasing floods, and threatening ecosystems around the world. However, not all regions contribute equally to this crisis, yet many suffer more than others. One powerful example is the mountainous region of Gilgit-Baltistan, located in northern Pakistan. This region has almost no heavy industries, minimal pollution, and very low carbon emissions. Despite this, it is among the most affected regions by climate change in the world. ❗ The Reality of Climate Inequality People often believe that those who pollute the most are the ones who suffer the most. But reality is different. In Gilgit-Baltistan: • There are no major industries producing         large emissions • Deforestation is limited compared to urban     regions • People live close to nature with low carbon     lifestyles Yet, the region faces: • Rap...

A world beyond the mountains

Introduction For many people, mountains are simply giant walls of rock reaching toward the sky. But for those who live among them, mountains are much more than that. Whenever I stand on a high peak and look beyond the mountains surrounding my village, I often wonder what lies on the other side. Hidden valleys, untouched landscapes, distant communities, and new adventures wait beyond every ridge. To me, the mountains do not mark the end of the world. They reveal a world beyond it. The Mystery of the Mountains Since childhood, I have been fascinated by mountains. Whenever I looked at a distant peak, I wondered what existed behind it. Was there another valley? Another village? A hidden stream flowing through untouched forests? The mountains always inspired curiosity and adventure. Every peak seemed to hide a story waiting to be discovered. Every Journey Reveals Something New One of the most exciting parts of trekking is reaching a place where a completely new landscape suddenly appea...

Why I Feel Peace in the Mountains

Introduction Whenever life becomes stressful, noisy or overwhelming, I find myself returning to the mountains. Living in the beautiful region of Gilgit-Baltistan, I have always been surrounded by towering peaks, fresh air, and peaceful valleys. Over time, the mountains became more than just scenery to me  they became a place of comfort, reflection and peace. There is something about the silence of the mountains that calms the heart in ways words cannot fully explain. The Silence of the Mountains One of the most beautiful things about the mountains is their silence. Far away from traffic, crowded streets and endless noise, the mountains feel calm and still. The only sounds are the wind moving through the valleys, birds singing in the distance or water flowing through streams. This silence never feels empty. Instead, it feels peaceful and alive. Whenever I stand in the mountains surrounded by nature my mind becomes quieter and lighter. Escaping the Noise of Life Modern life can often...

Cherry Season in My Village

Introduction Every year, there comes a season when my village feels more colorful, lively, and full of happiness, cherry season. In the mountains of Gilgit-Baltistan, cherry trees become covered with bright red fruit, turning the orchards into one of the most beautiful sights of summer. For us, cherries are more than just fruit. They are a part of our village life, our memories, and our connection with nature. The Arrival of Cherry Season As summer begins, the cherry trees slowly become heavy with fruit. Branches bend under the weight of fresh cherries while sunlight shines through the green leaves. Walking through the orchards during this season feels peaceful and refreshing. Everywhere you look, the trees are filled with color and life. Drinking Fresh Water from Glaciers

Introduction In many parts of the world, clean drinking water has become rare. But in the mountains of Gilgit-Baltistan, nature still provides one of its purest gifts, fresh glacier water. Flowing down from snow-covered peaks and ancient glaciers, this cold crystal-clear water is one of the most beautiful parts of life in the mountains. For me, drinking water directly from glacier streams is not just refreshing, it is an experience that feels deeply connected to nature itself. The Journey of Glacier Water High above the valleys, massive glaciers slowly melt beneath the sunlight. The water travels through rocks, mountains, and narrow streams before reaching villages below. As it flows through untouched natural landscapes, the water remains cold, fresh, and incredibly pure. In many mountain areas, glacier water becomes the main source of drinking water for local communities. The First Sip One of my favorite moments during trekking or exploration is stopping beside a glacier stream and dr...
